Item Title Debate: Port and Maritime Development: How?
Speaker Wolfe, Miriam E.
Speaker Boas, Roger
Date CreatedJanuary 22, 1971
Description

The debate focuses on the use and administration of the San Francisco Port and the Legislative Transfer Act, which gives the Port of San Francisco back to the city of San Francisco. Boas argues that the port should stay in the business it knows (shipping), and he "seriously questions whether they [the Port Commission] should be in the development business." He also states that the Port Commission should not be left unsupervised to make unilateral decisions about the port's future. Wolfe's rebuttal states her belief that the Port Commission should continue the administration of the land because it is best able to determine its own needs.
