Item Title The Argument Against Re-electing President Bush
Speaker Lieberman, Joseph I.
Date CreatedNovember 20, 2003
Description

Lieberman makes the case for why America should not re-elect President Bush. He argues the Bush administration's reliance on private interests has caused a distrust of the government. Framing his argument as right versus wrong, he claims this is not about business versus government. While he speaks fondly of capitalism, he claims it does not have a conscience, that government needs to protect the rest of the country against these individual entities. He says there is a third choice beyond total laissez-faire and total bureaucratic control. Lieberman cites regulation failures at the SEC, EPA, in California, and off-shore drilling.

During the question-and-answer session, among other questions, he speaks at length on gay marriage/gay rights.
