Item Title Fiscal Responsibility in State Government
Speaker Reagan, Ronald
Date CreatedOctober 30, 1970
Description

Governor Reagan discusses the fiscal irresponsibility he faced when entering the governor's office in 1966, and states that over the past four years he reduced administrative costs by such methods as employee reduction and hiring freezes. In addition, he states that he implemented tax reform to ensure a good business climate, increased care for the mentally ill, addressed the increasing crime rate with the formation of the Council of Criminal Justice, and increased the share of education costs with local government from 41 percent to 43 percent. In short, he believes he has brought responsibility back to state government.
