According to Bok and Bowen, since the introduction of affirmative action programs, racial quotas, et cetera in the university admission process, arguments for and against the programs have been based on political, philosophical, and emotional arguments--not hard data. The speakers undertook a study to cull such data on the long-term implications of the theory that students that study in a multicultural environment succeed in a multicultural workplace. In this talk, they speak about this study. They concentrate on white and black students, with occasional mention of Hispanic students; Asian students are not mentioned. Bok speaks about the experience of students while in and just after the university system. Bowen speaks about the success or not of the students in "the game of life."
