Item Title Five Years After the Cold War: Has a New World Order Emerged?
Speaker Rice, Condoleezza (1954-)
Date CreatedApril 24, 1996
Description

Rice speaks for about thirty minutes on the state of the world in the post-Cold-War and post-Soviet-Union era, ultimately concluding that a new world order has not occurred, but the beginnings of one have formed. She feels the world is lucky that the Soviet Union disintegrated as peacefully as it did, but is somewhat surprised the German reunification was more of a takeover than a merger. She further looks at the state of European unification.

Topics covered during the followup question-and-answer session include: America as the world's police, Russian presidential elections, Russian foreign policy, expanding NATO towards Russia, Russia and China, nuclear weapons and terrorists, Clinton administration towards Russia and Chechnya, and being provost.

Rice's biography includes: Thomas and Barbara Stephenson Senior Fellow on Public Policy, Hoover Institution; US Secretary of State, 2005-09; US National Security Adviser, 2001-05; provost, Stanford University, 1993-99.
