Item Title The People and Gorbachev
Speaker Tennison, Sharon
Date CreatedAugust 11, 1988
Description

Sharon Tennison, founder of the Center for Citizen Initiatives, describes the founding and work of her organization in facilitating cultural exchange between the United States and the Soviet Union.

This segues into her explaining how Gorbachev is viewed from within the Soviet Union. She says there is great optimism and caution in the people with Gorbachev, arguing this is expected for a people that have lived under "one tyrant after another" for the better part of a millennium.

She calls for the individual, every-day citizen to take a great part in understanding the people of the world and to not leave it up to the experts.
