Item Title Is there Justice for All?
Speaker Deukmejian, George
Date CreatedAugust 14, 1981
Description

Deukmejian responds to criticism of his request to Governor Brown to question his judicial appointees' views on past cases, and he criticizes the California Supreme Court for failing to provide justice to the public. He points out the weaknesses of the current court system, which he sees as overly lenient in its prosecution of criminals. He is frustrated with the court's rulings that do not sufficiently punish murderers. Governor Brown has appointed half of the court's current justices; Deukmejian asserts that Brown should make careful, fair appointments to best serve the people of California.
