Description

Duignan talks about the crisis in Namibia and the growing concern among African nations about United States support of South Africa. He explains the U.S. position and offers an overview of African history. Duignan also examines South Africa's domination of Namibia and other states, as well as the battles that have occurred in Africa. Finally, he expresses his understanding of the difficulties in reaching an ideal solution to the Namibian crisis. (Duignan replaces Jeane Kirkpatrick, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, whose scheduled talk was "Fresh Perspectives on U.S. Foreign Policy".)

Duignan was a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution on War, Revolution and Peace.
