Item Title Canada in the 1980s: A Western Perspective
Speaker Bennett, William R.
Date CreatedApril 21, 1981
Description

Bennett discusses the factors behind Canada's prosperity, past and present. While Canada has been doing well economically and socially, he sees issues that might hinder future success. Bennett disagrees with the Canadian federal government for wanting to change its constitution. He warns that such action will destroy Canada's economic and social success. He would like to see the federal government improve economic policy by expanding energy reserves and strengthening international trade. Finally, he emphasizes that Canadian provinces (local governments) should be made stronger by being allowed to continue doing what has brought prosperity to Canada.
