While commenting on the decline in the ability of United States industry to compete internationally, Kanaga lists and analyzes four factors behind the decline: the need for capital investment by business, the government's lack of tax and other investment incentives, the troublesome mindset of American business management, and the attitude of American workers toward productivity. Of the four, Kanaga places greatest emphasis on the attitude of workers, noting that the unit of output for each labor hour has dropped significantly. Pointing out the high productivity of Japanese workers, he urges American workers to change their attitude. In addition, he reminds U.S. executives to develop the vision to lead their companies to success in the future.
