Mitgang observes that women have acquired more rights in the United States over the years, yet they are still treated unfairly. She describes women's accomplishments in politics and how the Equal Rights Amendment has helped, and continues to help, achieve equality for women in society. Finally, Mitgang describes some activities by women that have helped push for change toward equality.
