Speaker Berman, Howard L. (1941-)
Speaker Jarvis, Howard
Date CreatedApril 29, 1980
Description

Berman and Jarvis debate the pros and cons of California's Proposition 9, on the ballot in June 1980. It is the third in a series of California initiatives aimed at reducing government spending and taxation. It would halve the personal income tax, among other provisions. A long-term proponent of Proposition 9, Jarvis emphasizes the tax cuts and the relocation of funds. In contrast, Berman predicts economic failure and a sharp increase in income taxes.
