Item Title Fifteen Years of Progress Under the Wilderness Act: 1964-1979
Speaker Snyder, Theodore A. (1932-)
Date CreatedAugust 24, 1979
Description

Snyder discusses the political compromises inherent in the Wilderness Act and its imperfections. Wilderness is limited to federal lands, and is subject to mining, water power projects, and legacy livestock grazing. Exceptions for motorized equipment also exist. The act is a good beginning, but there is a long way to go to protect the wilderness.
