Item Title The Case for National Youth Service
Speaker McCloskey, Paul N. (1927-)
Date CreatedAugust 10, 1979
Description

McCloskey believes that the idea of duty to serve has been a casualty of the Vietnam War. He proposes uniform military service or national service for young Americans. He explains why a volunteer army is unsatisfactory, discussing democracy and decisions by presidents who lacked military experience. A National Youth Service would address a deteriorating sense of respect for the United States, and a deteriorating military force.
