Item Title Real Issues Facing Intelligence and the CIA
Speaker Carlucci, Frank Charles (1930-)
Date CreatedNovember 15, 1978
Description

Carlucci discusses foreign and domestic issues facing the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). He explains why the CIA is important and addresses the issue of public support for the CIA. The CIA has proper controls and congressional oversight; further micro-managing would compromise the CIA's secrecy, which is necessary to maintain credibility and security. Without proper security, intelligence sources have no reason to trust the CIA with information; this is comparable to the secrecy given to journalist's sources. In conclusion, Carlucci asks for understanding and support of the CIA.
