Item Title California Sets the Pace for the World
Speaker Brown, Jerry (1938-)
Date CreatedOctober 20, 1978
Description

California is setting the pace for not only the United States, but the entire world. Brown believes that the best days for the state are still ahead. He talks about the challenges and obstacles California faces, while highlighting the positive steps taken in recent years to position itself as the leading state in the nation. The state is in a strong financial position, new jobs are being created each year, and people from across the country are migrating to California in search of jobs. Trade has increased under Brown's tenure, and he has brought together competing objectives, such as cleaner environment and more oil production. In fact, Brown will be announcing a permit for UCO Oil Company. California's diversity strengthens its economy and progress. Questions from the audience cover such topics as immigration, nuclear power, water supply, Mexican gas, and Brown's running for the presidency.

The sound quality is poor at times, with Governor Brown's voice sounding off-pitch. Perhaps the machine that originally recorded the program in 1978 was malfunctioning.
