Speaker Baldwin, Robert H. B. (1920-2016)
Date CreatedOctober 06, 1978
Description

Proposals for capital gains tax relief would increase investment, employment, productivity, and U.S. treasury revenues. Ignoring the fact that higher capital gains taxes helped drive millions of Americans out of the stock market in the last seven years, the government has proposed raising them still higher. Baldwin talks about efforts to persuade Congress of the benefits of capital gains tax relief. He counters the government‘s arguments, particularly its claim that capital gains relief runs against the grain of tax equity. He discusses the current capital gains proposals in Congress, and urges the audience to write their legislators. Baldwin stresses that capital gains tax relief is integral to the future of the free enterprise system in America.
