Item Title Quebec and Canada: A New Relationship
Speaker Lévesque, René (1922-1987)
Date CreatedSeptember 29, 1978
Description

The kind of change going on in Quebec, which is moving toward sovereignty, is going to make both Canada and Quebec healthier. Levesque explains that Quebec had the same beginning as the American colonies, and shared many of the same values. He believes that Canada‘s federal institutions form a straightjacket limiting Quebec‘s development. Levesque talks about administration by the new government in Quebec and its plans for the future. What the government has developed in Quebec is sovereignty and association. Sovereignty means running Quebec‘s own self-development. Association means keeping a market union with Canada that would be mutually profitable.
