The technology age's focus on speed has turned us away from the richest source we have, our cultural heritage. Haley tells a story about his father that has significance for him and everyone else. Those people who are called minorities represent the greatest untapped well of human potential in the United States. To every writer, Haley would emphasize that history is here by the ton to be dealt with. After Haley speaks, the winning California authors are announced: Ferol Egan, Ingrid Rimland, Theodore Taylor, Henry Evans, Brooke Hayward, and Ann Stanford. This is the Club‘s 47th annual book awards event.
