Speaker
Schlafly, Phyllis
Date CreatedMay 26, 1978
Description
The big difference between liberals and conservatives is that conservatives want the maximum amount of money to be spent by individuals rather than the government. Liberals believe problems can be solved by more bureaucracy and more spending. In Schlafly‘s mind, the explanation for why the United States needs conservatives can be stated in terms of four "R"s: (1) respect for other people‘s money, (2) remembering the past, (3) restoring our economic freedom and national defense, and (4) resisting special interest groups. After her speech, Schlafly fields many audience questions about the Equal Rights Amendment.
