Item Title The Electricity Future: What Can You Believe?
Speaker Starr, Chauncey
Date CreatedMay 19, 1978
Description

The energy problem is apparent in two forms. First, the Arab cartel is using oil supply for policy purposes and economic gain, so that the United States has lost much foreign policy independence. Second, the dislocation of the U.S. economy resulting from the very large increases in Arab oil prices, and the associated price increases for other fuels, affects the the U.S. trade balance. Starr discusses short-term issues to reduce oil imports, and long-term issues. There are many uncertainties and no single course for the future. Public understanding and cooperation are necessary. Meanwhile the energy industry needs freedom to pursue all available options.
