Speaker Jarvis, Howard
Speaker Behr, Peter
Date CreatedMay 12, 1978
Description

California Propositions 8 and 13 are two competing property tax initiatives on the ballot in June 1978. In this discussion, Jarvis asserts that Proposition 13 will cut property taxes and allow the elderly to stay in their homes. Behr explains local revenue limitations. He concludes that Proposition 8 will bring 48,000 jobs to California, while Proposition 13 will cost 451,000 jobs in California. Businesses are against Prop 13 because it will be bad for the economy, bad for business, and a disaster for local government.
