Item Title Can American Steel Survive Import Competition?
Speaker Roche, John P.
Date CreatedNovember 21, 1969
Description

Roche reflects on a recent trip to Japan that showed him the strength of the Japanese steel industry. He explains how the Japanese and United States steel industries differ, pointing to the uniformity of Japanese steel companies and their emphasis on the national interest. Despite the growing worldwide demand for steel, he believes that a quota on imports into the U.S. steel market is necessary to protect the industry.

The sound quality is poor toward the beginning few minutes of the talk due to poor slitting of the original tape.
