Item Title What is Too Much in a Free Society?
Speaker Valenti, Jack
Date CreatedOctober 10, 1969
Description

Valenti describes a disparity in the perception of obscenity in American society. He suggests that educated youth and the mature population have vastly different ideas on what is acceptable for the public to view in motion pictures. Valenti discusses two methods of dealing with this issue, the "totally free movie" versus censoring the content of all films. He argues that to live in a society is to be restrained, that liberty is not limitless. He supports a film rating system, based on theme and content, as a means of informing adults of what their children would be watching.
