2003c87_a_0008326_r01.MP3
Item Title Mao's Successor
Speaker Le Fevour, Edward
Date CreatedApril 25, 1969
Description

Le Fevour discusses the imminent passing of Mao and the possibilities for his successor. His successor will be faced with the struggles brought about by modernity and by the growing rifts within the communist party. Le Fevour speculates that the named successor to Mao, Lin Piao, will not accept the office. Whoever accepts China‘s leadership will have to acknowledge that the ideals of the Cultural Revolution isolate China from its fellow socialist nations. The new leader, according to Le Fevour, will need to establish political stability and deal with economic challenges.
