Item Title Secret War in Thailand and Burma
Speaker Spear, Moncrieff J.
Date CreatedApril 18, 1969
Description

Spear outlines the communist threat in Thailand, the growing insurgent activity in the region, and the assistance the United States has provided to help Thailand combat communism. This aid, which includes establishing better communication networks, equipping Thai security forces with American helicopters, and helping provide better medical services, has facilitated a more passive U.S. role in warding off the communist threat in the region. Spear talks about the communist threat in Burma in terms of its extreme nationalism and its lack of vested interests in the United States.
