Parker speaks about race relations in the country, with an emphasis on the effects on business. He states that both white people spend too much time speaking only to white people and black people spend too much time speaking only to black people. He argues that both groups have many of the same goals; that the differences are on tactics. Moreover, he identifies self-interest as the core of entrepreneurship for both white and black businessmen and the advancement of the black community. He believes altruism is counterproductive to its aims. He clarifies this by saying compassion and self-interest go hand-in-hand. He proposes that the entire business community address the problem of bringing more black Americans into the free enterprise system. He suggests that this be accomplished by furthering business opportunities for African Americans and analyzing the unknowns in this problem in a pragmatic business manner.
