A New Urban Policy
2003c87_a_0005707_r01.MP3
Item Title A New Urban Policy
Speaker Humphrey, Hubert H. (Hubert Horatio) (1911-1978)
Date CreatedJuly 30, 1968
Description

Vice President Humphrey speaks about urban governance in the country, arguing that, with the vast majority of Americans projected to live in them, the cities need to be improved. He believes there is no present issue that one single city can deal with by itself, advocating an increased role in planning and coordination for the federal government. He further believes there needs to be both rejuvenated old cities and new cities, not necessarily situation along rivers, rail, etc. as in the past. He wants the country to inaugurate a new city on the bicentennial that would be a model city of planning and technology.
