Dr. Barnard performed the first heart transplant. In this talk, he analyzes that event as well as the implications thereof. He discusses the resulting pragmatic, ethical, and moral issues. He believes that heart surgery is not a misuse of trust but an application of therapeutic measures to save life, restore health, and relieve patient suffering.
